Food in Sevilla is quite different than what you're used to in America. While Sevillano food is delicious, it's much milder in flavor than other countries. They're also known for smaller portions of food for sharing, known as tapas. People eat very late here; dinner is usually around 10pm! This is because Spain has a huge social culture, so they eat and socialize late with friends at restaurants. It's very common to see people continue to eat until one in the morning because of this!
I've tried new foods while living here in Spain. Even when I don't end up liking something, I'm appreciative of experiencing a different culture through taste. I would say Spain's most popular food, and my favorite, is paella!
So far I've tried two different types of paella, both homemade. The first paella was made by my host mom. It was a big portion of seasoned rice with seafood. The second one was also homemade. My school had us take a cooking class at a homestay, and we made paella!
In the cooking class, we cut up veggies and meat and sautéed them together. Then we poured those into a big pot with rice, and the seasoned broth meant for paella. After stirring everything up, you let it sit and cook. We topped it off with shrimp, scallions, escargot and peppers.
