Despite what many Americans imagine the Middle East to be like, there are so many different religions, cultures and nationalities living here together peacefully. In Jordan, there are more people from the countries of Palestine, Syria and Iraq living in Jordan than actual Jordanians! The people here love to share their cultures with foreigners, so I have been blessed to experience many different ways of living and perspectives on the world.
As far as religion goes, there are many Christians, Muslims and atheists living here. In neighboring Israel and Palestine, there are many Jews, atheists, Christians and Muslims. It is so interesting to walk down a street and see a mosque right next to a church. The different ethnicities and religions in the area have gotten along for thousands of years. Unfortunately, on the news in America, we only hear stories of bad people hurting each other and saying it was because of religion or ethnicity. But that is a very rare thing to see happening here.
Since this area of the world has had people living in it for so long, the cultures and perspectives of people here are often tied to historic ideas and older traditions.
