Hiya! (Hi in the U.K.),
I have learned a lot about London culture since moving here in August. Since everyone speaks English, I did not anticipate too many cultural differences. But the language really is quite different to American English. Did you know, for instance, that they call eggplants aubergines? The differences between American English and British English might be great, but once I got the hang of it, it was fun using new words. I will forever say "queue" and "flatmate." I have earned a lot of my slang through watching television and through meeting people at school.
London is a city rich with culture and opportunities. People in London come from all over the world and speak many languages: on the tube alone, you can hear conversations happening in at least three different languages. On Sundays, most people will sit down and have a big meal with their families called a "Sunday Roast."
Each part of the U.K. has its own culture, and London reflects the whole world, being an international melting pot. I cannot wait to check out more places in the U.K. and learn about each regions culture.
