Dia duit (Hello)! My name is Kairy Mercado-Ramos. I am 21 years old and was born in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, but I have lived in Springfield, Illinois, most of my life. My family moved from Puerto Rico to Illinois when I was only about two months old, but we still embrace our culture and language. Before I graduated eighth grade, like you all are about to, I attended Springfield Christian School from kindergarten until eighth grade. I was involved in several activities: choir, cross-country, drama club, praise team, and band. I loved staying active and making friends this way, which I am sure most of you have been doing up until now. I was also taught by Mrs. Wamsley when I was in Jr. High. You all are probably learning about the Constitution too, which was my favourite part of eighth-grade history class. After SCS, I attended Springfield Southeast High School, which did an amazing job setting me up for success in college. I was also involved in many extracurriculars in high school, like drumline, jazz band, choir, concert band, FCA, NHS, cross-country, and track. Currently,
I am attending school at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois, which is about a 38-minute drive away from SCS! I studying criminal justice and sociology for my major, and music as a minor.
