






The most common languages are English, Xhosa, Xitsonga, Zulu, Afrikaans, Venda, and Ndebele. However, just about everyone here speaks English (and likely four or five other languages too).

I've learned a wide range of music since coming here, including: Ska, punk, amapiano, reggae, Afro house, brass house, indie, jazz, blues, roots, rocksteady, dub, orchestral, classical, lo-fi, r&b, rap, zamrock, kwaito, Xhosa music, Mbaqanga, afro fusion, hip hop, traditional Xitsonga music, and Shangaan electro.
Getting out into the bush, like always. But it is hard work! The sun continues to climb as we hike into the bush every day, navigating around trees and animals. Our goal is to always get to the carcass. There, we unload our gear, take measurements, and record data. Depending on the size of the carcass, we can do three or four in a day, but sometimes we don’t even finish with one!
