About Me

It is even better that I get to do it as a scientist who lives and works here instead of as a temporary tourist!

So far, living in Tingo María has been a great adventure. I think I was well prepared to come here because of my previous experiences visiting Perú and the fact that I speak fluent Spanish. One other important factor that has helped me have a positive experience is that since arriving, I have been able to meet lots of friends at the university I am working at. They have been helping me learn my way around town and find fun things to do on the weekends. I have also learned lots of interesting things from them about the unique foods, traditions and history of this part of Perú.

In my free time, I have enjoyed getting to explore the rainforest around town and see the amazing diversity of animals and plants that live in it, from bright-colored parrots to extremely cute monkeys! I have also joined a music group at the university which allows me to share my love of the guitar and learn some famous Peruvian folk songs. It has all been a great experience so far, and I am excited to keep learning and trying new things during the rest of my time here!
