Dr. Sylvia Earle is a marine biologist and the first female chief scientist of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Dr. Kathy Sullivan was both the first woman to walk in space and the first woman to visit the deepest part of the ocean. As some of the first female members of the prestigious Explorers Club, Dr. Earle and Dr. Sullivan overcame tremendous obstacles as they pursued their relentless curiosity about the world around them.
In this virtual exchange expedition, we will connect with female members of The Explorers Club, all of whom have made exploration and scientific discovery a central part of their careers. We'll learn about their work, what motivates them, and what challenges remain for women in STEM fields. These are the women who are redefining what we know about our planet while inspiring the next generation of female scientists, field researchers and explorers.
This exchange will begin on International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11, 2021. By connecting with female Explorers Club members through written articles and special video call events, we will celebrate the female experience in STEM and exploration. We hope you will join us!
