This past weekend was a whirlwind, as my friends and I traveled north of Lyon to Brussels, Belgium! Once our class ended on Friday, we hurried to the airport. When we got there, we found out that our flight was delayed and we thought it was going to be canceled. However, three hours later, we took off and were on our way to Belgium! Arriving on Friday night, my six friends and I took a taxi to our hostel to go to sleep to get ready for the next morning. A hostel is similar to a hotel but is less expensive and is traditionally used for young travelers.

Saturday morning, we woke up early to see the massive and beautiful St. Michael Cathedral. Then, we walked over to see the Belgian Palace and the Fine Arts Museum. Additionally, we saw “the Grand Place,” which is the main square in the city and is lined by souvenir shops, restaurants and more museums. While there, we ate Belgian waffles, which are sweet waffles that can be covered in many different toppings such as Nutella, chocolate, fruit, whipped cream or nuts. Additionally, Belgium is famous for its fries, so we ate at a frittery to try them out. Another important monument in Brussels, Belgium is the Atomium. It is a large atom shaped building and museum that offers beautiful views of Brussels.
