I’ve only been on a tro-tro once, simply for the experience. I did not like taking it, and for that reason I have not taken another one since. I found it very hot, stuffy and claustrophobic. It reminded me of a really hot day in a packed M.T.A. bus with no A.C. or circulation. I recommend getting a window seat if you can, so that you get some breeze coming your way as the bus is moving. Everyone should try a tro-tro at least once if they come to Ghana.
The good thing about riding tro-tros is that it is very affordable for the average Ghanaian. Since not everyone can afford to buy a car or use a taxi, it is very important to have a system like this that is open to anyone regardless of class. Beyond this jobs get created since tro-tros are privately owned, so the driver and the mate are both employed through this system. Ghanaian culture is much more relaxed than in the U.S. If something is supposed to start at 12:00 p.m. in Ghana , it may not actually start till 1:30 p.m. Because of this, the lack of scheduling for the tro-tros does not seem to be an issue for Ghanaians.
