Wie geht es Ihnen? (How's it going?) I’m Alec, and over the course of the next twelve weeks, I’m going to share a bit about living and studying in Berlin, the capital of Germany. I arrived a little over two months ago, and I’m planning to be here for the next two years to work on my Masters degree in Architecture at the Technical University (TU) of Berlin.

How did I end up here? Exactly ten years ago, I was a student in Mrs.Trongard’s and Mrs. Frasca’s integrated class. In AP World History, we learned about World War II, the Cold War, and the impact of the Soviet Union on recent global history. Berlin was at the center of a lot of these events, and it became a city that I was curious to learn more about. The summer after graduating High School (this was in 2016) my three friends and I planned a two-week ‘euro-trip’ to Amsterdam, several cities in Germany, and Prague. Although I had been on a trip abroad with my parents before, it was (unsurprisingly) a very different experience going overseas with just my friends. We spent the two weeks hiking, biking, trying new foods, visiting landmarks, and not sleeping much.
