Icelandic Fish and Potatoes

I did not like this dish, but luckily, cod and potatoes were there, too!

How is the food prepared?:

It is pretty simple! You first boil the fish and potatoes. While in America we mostly buy rye bread from the store, in Iceland, they actually make it by sometimes burying it underground! The bread can bake underground like an oven because of the geothermal energy (heat produced from under the Earth's surface).

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

In some places of the world, such as the northeastern United States and Canada, the cod populations are quickly decreasing due to overfishing. However, there is plenty of fish in the sea because of Iceland's good fisheries management! Fishing is Iceland's main occupation, connecting Icelandic people to the ocean.
