A Tasty Journey Into Korean Barbecue

Introduction:

Recently, Korean food has been getting more popular around the world. One of the more well-known cooking styles is Korean barbecue (B.B.Q.). Do you barbecue with your family at home? Koreans barbecue very differently from how we do it in America!

What food did I try?:

There are many different types of Korean B.B.Q., including beef, pork and fire chicken!

I went to a restaurant that specializes in samgyeopsal, Korean pork belly. The dish translates to “three layers of pork.” Can you see all the layers?

Korean B.B.Q. is typically served at restaurants, and you always eat the food with other people. It is common to eat this meal together with your family, friends or co-workers.

Besides samgyeopsal, all Korean restaurants serve small side dishes with your meal, which are called banchan. All the banchan come free with your food at no extra cost, and you can get unlimited refills of it! Some of these dishes include kimchi, chili peppers, lettuce, and perilla leaves in which to wrap the pork. Most banchan are fermented foods or pre-cooked foods that you can eat cold.

There are also different sauces you can eat your barbecue pork with. The most common sauce is ssamjang, which tastes like miso paste with extra seasonings. You can also eat the barbecue pork with wasabi and salt.
