Did you know that over 30% of the entire country of Switzerland is covered in forests? Of these forests, almost all of the trees are pine trees, and the most common type of pine you'll find here is the spruce. Every hike I went on, park I sat in, and path I walked down seemed to be lined with these trees.
If you don't know what a spruce tree looks like, think Christmas. Spruce trees look very similar to the trees you decorate your house with every December. Spruce are different than most pines because of their shorter, fatter needles. The bark on their trunks is very flaky and thin. They bear cones in certain seasons that fall once pollinated.
Honestly, I felt pretty small in the presence of such massive trees. Certain pine trees can grow to be over 80 feet tall. Hiking through the woods, surrounded by these enormous creatures, felt surreal to me. I remembered how tiny we humans are in comparison to the rest of the world.
