Hiking Through a Magical Forest

Spruce trees can be found in the northern part of the United States and Canada as well.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

These trees are known to easily adapt to a wide variety of soils and climates. Therefore, they are able to live all over the world. The climate can be mild, but not too hot or the spruce will not survive. Spruce trees use their roots to transport water from the ground, through their trunk, and into their leaves. They use photosynthesis to change sunlight into energy and nutrients. As long as there is water and sunlight, and the temperature is moderate or cold, spruces will find a way to survive in their environment.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

The most common problem affecting spruce trees is a fungal disease known as Rhizosphaera. When the trees contract this disease, their needles turn brown and fall off very quickly. In recent years, there has been a decline in the amount of living spruce trees across the globe. Some believe this is due to mice, squirrels and other rodents consuming the majority of seeds that spruce trees make, therefore disabling their ability to reproduce. Spruce decline has been a topic of conversation among botonists for a few years, but no one seems too worried about a possible extinction because there are so many still alive.
