Between the Mountains and the Sea

Introduction:

Valencia is a vibrant port city located on the southeastern coast of Spain, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Its unique topography makes it an exciting place to study and live. In a matter of minutes, you could be hiking up a mountain, walking along a beach or biking through an orchard!

What makes this environment special or different?:

You can think of the city of Valencia as a circle. On the left side of the circle, the city is surrounded by the Sierra Calderonas. This long mountain range is a popular spot for locals and tourists both to escape the busy activities of the city and experience the breathtaking sights of Spain’s natural beauty. This mountain range is unlike any I’ve hiked in the United States; it's composed of sandy rocks and vibrant green trees.

On the right side of the circle lies the Mediterranean Sea. Its blue-green waters provide the main passageway of trade for the entire country. The coast of the city is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Europe. Malvarossa is Valencia’s main beach, spanning almost the entirety of the city, but my personal favorite beach is located in Albufuera Natural Park on the outskirts of the city.  This remote part of Valencia is unknown to many tourists and makes for the perfect place to watch incredible Spanish sunsets in solitude.
