Always in a Rush

They run more frequently during rush hour and less frequently at night.

The subway is just as easy to use as the bus. There are nine main subway lines or routes that are also color-coded. The subway station closest to my school is famous for a big red straw-like statue, which you can see pictured. The bus and the subway usually announce stops in both Korean and English.

I do a lot of walking in Seoul, as do many other people who live in the city. In busy areas of the city, where there are huge streets, bridges connect one side of the sidewalk to the other instead of a crosswalk. I find this to be be very safe and I usually get a nice view of the city on these bridges.

Many buses and subway lines stop running around 11:00 PM, but there are usually taxis waiting around major shopping areas. Taxis aren't very expensive here, so they're the best option for anyone who likes catching a late movie or eating a late dinner with friends.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

In Los Angeles, I take the bus and the subway, so the first time I took public transportation in Seoul I thought I'd be prepared. I was wrong! Even if the methods are the same, in practice, using public transportation comfortably in a new city usually takes some time.

Taking the bus and subway in Seoul is convenient, but since so many people use public transportation, during rush hours I really had to be careful not to get lost in the swarm of people.
