Passapp and Grab have made tuk-tuk transportation very comfortable and easy. All I have to do is type in where I'd like to go, and the app tells me exactly how much I should expect to pay. Getting a tuk-tuk can be a stressful experience for newcomers to Cambodia, especially if the driver is not familiar with your destination. For the most part, I try to keep things simple and walk where I need to go. The weather is always so nice, and there's a lot to see along the way.
The use of tuk-tuks and motos has traditionally allowed for a cheap and efficient way for people to get around the country. This industry is also a source of employment for many local people. Cars can often be very expensive and are quite rare in more rural regions of Cambodia. The culture surrounding tuk-tuk use is changing, however. New travel apps are making it easier to connect with passengers, but there are also many more drivers coming to big cities like Phnom Penh and Siem Reap looking for jobs.
