Nature News

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

The floating torii gate was amazing. Because I was on Miyajima for the whole day, I got to see it at high tide, when the base was covered with water, and at low tide, when I could walk through it. In between high tide (at 11:00 a.m.) and low tide (at 3:00 p.m.), I hiked up Mt. Misen, the tallest mountain on the island. The top of Mt. Misen was amazing. We could see a clear view of all the nearby islands, as well as the bright blue sky and clear blue water. I'll never forget that view.

Other Nature News from this week:

Two other beautiful places I visited were Shukkeien Garden and Hijiyama Park. Shukkeien Garden was built in 1620 and has been the personal garden for samurai warlords as well as the emperor himself. Every part of the garden was planned, from the pond with koi fish to the stone bridges to a hill shaped like Mt. Fuji. Hijiyama Park is on top of a small hill, so has amazing views of the city. While in the park, I also went to the Hiroshima Public Manga Library, which is a library full of manga, or comic books, for readers of all ages.
