Believe it or not, the seasons are actually flipped in South Africa! So when I went it was snowing in the United States, but it was warm and sunny almost every day in Potchefstroom! There is barely any wind, the sun is almost always shining and it is usually a cool 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit. When it isn't sunny and warm, it can be rainy. They do have a rainy season, which just means it rains more than usual than other seasons. Even when it did rain, it was almost always sunny and warm the next day!
While it took me a while to get used to the typical animals around the University, they were always so fun to watch! Specific animals that I saw every day included monkeys digging through some trash on campus, a mongoose or two running around and a lot of tropical birds! While those all may seem exotic, there was one animal that at least reminded me of home...a dove! They weren't the same species of dove you usually see around the United States, but they looked similar.
