During my first days in Munich, I felt isolated. I eventually followed my advisor's advice to immerse myself in the local culture. Joining the Hochschule München (HM) international club led to a trip to Füssen, a quaint southern German town that resembled a Disney movie with its grand castles and horse carriage rides. We dined at the town's medieval-themed restaurant, Gasthof Krone. I was hesitant to go as this was my first encounter with German cuisine.
I tried currywurst mit pommes (sausage with fries) and a chicken schnitzel (chicken that is pounded flat and then fried).
This was my first time trying German cuisine. That initial bite made me realize that food encompasses more than just simple flavor. Food is a way that communities and cultures connect with one another. This was the first time that I started to feel like I belonged in this new place. After this experience, I became more keen on trying new things in Germany.
