Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

Our first trip is to Darjeeling, India. We took a 35-minute flight to Bhadrapur in Nepal, then drove across to Darjeeling. Kathmandu is about 300 miles away from Darjeeling.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

Including the flight from the United States, almost 9,000 miles! Can you believe it?

How did I get around this week?:

When I'm not taking a special trip, I walk to school everyday in Kathmandu. It is about a 25-minute walk. There are not always sidewalks so sometimes you have to walk alongside cars and motorcycles. Crossing the street can sometimes be scary because there are no traffic lights. You just have to be brave, and motorcycles and cars alike end up stopping when you cross. How do you cross the street in New York City?

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was Darjeeling, India. It is a beautiful town in the foothills at the base of the Himalayan Mountains, the high mountain range between Nepal and India. It is very difficult to get around by car because everything is built on hills, even all the houses! Everybody speaks Nepali even though Darjeeling is in India. A long time ago before British colonization, Darjeeling used to be part of Nepal. Even now, they kept the Nepali language and traditions.
