Nepali is spoken in Larjung, but Thakali is also widely spoken. Thakali is a language spoken by the Thakali people that live in the western mountain region of Nepal.
The rupiya is used in all parts of Nepal. Fun fact: 1 US dollar is approximately 110 rupiya.
Water bottles are a little bit more expensive here than in Kathmandu since it is a very touristy area. But a water bottle still only costs 100 rupiya, so less than a dollar. There are also a lot of water fountains along trekking routes, so that's how I refilled my water bottle for free.
Thakali people are known for their delicious food, and luckily the students in my group were all placed with Thakali homestay families. Last week I told you about dalbhaat, the traditional rice and lentil dish of Nepal. I had dalbhaat every day here in Larjung, and it was the best I've ever had. The spices and the pickles were so delicious. I am getting really hungry just remembering the food!
