I have traveled a lot these past two weeks. I took an eight-hour, 124-mile bus ride from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Thankfully, for the first leg of my Himalayan trek (around 90 miles), I took an 18-minute flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. (You should know that many of the roads in rural Nepal are not paved, so even short distances may take a long time to drive. I'll provide an example so it's easier to understand. I live in Rockford, IL, which is about 90 miles from Chicago. It takes about one-and-a-half hours for me to drive to Chicago. That trip from Pokhara to Jomsom is around the same distance, but instead it takes seven hours by jeep!) Then it was on to Larjung. By a combination of bus, jeep and walking, it was a total of 206 miles from Kathmandu to Larjung.
During my stay in Larjung, I completed most of the Annapurna Circuit Trek, a 100-mile trek around the north-central part of the Himalayan Mountains, by foot and jeep. Finally, I flew back the 124 miles from Pokhara to Kathmandu, a short 30-minute flight as opposed to the eight hours spent on bus two weeks ago.
