Lesotho is home to two incredible dams, one of them being the second largest dam in all of Africa. I have only traveled to Mohale Dam, as Katse Dam is very far from my location. I do hope to visit Katse before my service ends since it is so important in Lesotho's recent history. These dams were created at the request of South Africa. South Africa has feared for decades that it will one day run out of water. And in the 2010's, Cape Town was weeks away from running out of water before they were able to pull off a miracle by incorporating innovative engineering solutions and household water rationing. South Africa has paid Lesotho hundreds of millions of dollars over the past few decades for the use of this water. This money is desperately needed by the Lesotho government, as Lesotho has low tourist levels and a relatively poor economy. However, Basotho are often upset at these dams as they don't feel that they have benefited from this additional income.  Plus, many families were forced to relocate out of way of the dams. Basotho don't receive this water, which has been especially challenging over the past decade as Lesotho has experienced a severe lack of rainfall.
