Travel News

I walk for about 20 minutes to get to the taxi stop, and then once a car comes by and picks me up, it takes an additional 20 to 25 minutes to reach town. It used to take about 40 minutes to drive to town, but the government is actually trying to fix our road. I suppose people all around the world sometimes get angry when they have to deal with bad road conditions! They replaced the rocks/gravel with dirt so now vehicles can go much faster than they previously could.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

Usually, the most interesting place that I visit during the school year is my banking town where I go to withdrawal money and buy groceries from. But since I was on vacation this past week, I'd say the most interesting place I visited was Robben Island in Cape Town. It is an island prison where Nelson Mandela was held captive as a political prisoner for decades. Visitors receive a guided tour from a prisoner who was held at Robben Island. Robben Island is where the former government kept anyone who spoke out against them.

Other Travel News from this week:

Before the end of this year, I am hoping to take weekend vacations to two small border cities in South Africa, Clarens and Ladybrand. They are both within several hours from my location and have great accomodation and shops. I feel it is neccessary to occasionally leave my village because I enjoy being able to access luxuries like showers, television and hot chocolate! Taking vacations also helps me to regain my focus and enjoy activities that I used to love doing before I came to Lesotho, like visiting cafes and going to movie theaters. It's important to have opportunities to do things that make you feel happy!
