Tradition in FRANCE!

Journal Entry:

One tradition I learned about in France is the Galette des Rois, which means “King’s Cake.” It is a special pastry eaten in January to celebrate the New Year and the holiday of Epiphany. I even got to try it myself and it is so good! Inside the galette, there is a small hidden charm called a fève. When the cake is cut, everyone gets a slice. The person who finds the fève in their piece becomes the “king” or “queen” for the day and gets to wear a paper crown! Sometimes they even get to choose someone else to be their king or queen!

This tradition brings people together and creates a fun moment to share with family, friends, classmates or coworkers. It celebrates joy and luck at the start of a new year. The surprise of finding the fève makes it exciting, and wearing the crown makes the winner feel special. It’s also a way to keep French culture and history alive from one generation to the next.

The Galette des Rois is connected to France’s food culture and local environment. France is famous for its bakeries, and during January, you can find galettes in almost every bakery and supermarket. The ingredients like butter, flour and almonds come from local farming traditions!
