I typically walk around Tartu on foot, but sometimes I take my car when we travel to the countryside, to the airport or to the malls on the outskirts of the city. Tartu is easily walkable, even when there is a foot of snow on the ground.
The most important thing is that your clothes are comfortable and warm. Many Estonians prefer to wear layers so that they can be ready for cold weather but also for central heating inside! I almost always have gloves, hats and scarves lying around. In the spring, I love to wear dresses, usually with warm stockings or leggings underneath.
My husband and I spend a lot of free time taking our children to birthday parties or school events, but on the weekends, sometimes we find time to go mushrooming (picking mushrooms in the forest). My sons love to ride bikes, so we take them to the bike races that Tartu hosts every once in a while.
I speak Estonian and English. In Estonian, "hello" is "tere".
Yes, I have a fat, gray, middle-aged cat named Sofi. She loves to sit on one particular chair at the dining table. I tried to put her on a diet a while ago, but I gave up.
