Transportation Around Madrid

Introduction:

Riding the train is a popular way to get around in many cities. Taking the bus is another method of transportation. Riding a bike is another great transportation option for short distances. Different methods of transportation are used in different places depending on local demographics. In Madrid, a major city in Europe with about a million people living in it, you see a lot of underground transportation. Expanding the streets to include more cars is not possible without getting rid of historical architectures. Instead, transportation goes underground! The main methods of transportation in Madrid are trains, cars, buses, bikes, and scooters.

How do people get around?:

In Madrid, the train system is called, "Metro" and it is the transportation method that most people use to get around the city. The Metro system is comprised of 11 different “lineas” or lines. Each line is a pair of trains, one going in one direction and the other going in the opposite direction. The Metro is the best way to get around the city center of Madrid; however, because Madrid is so big, there are other trains that can take you to the outskirts of Madrid. And these trains are called “Cercanías.” To get to my school, I take the Metro (Linea 1) and then transfer onto another train, (Cercanía 8). It takes about a thirty minutes to get to my University.
