Senegal has a very long dry season which is from November until August. This makes growing crops and having fresh water difficult. Additionally, when it does rain there is poor drainage which causes a lot of flooding meaning people can not go to work or get around the city. Jobs are closed and school is cancelled until the flooding goes down.
People have adopted to this environment by relying on crops that succeed in their environment such as rice and root crops like potatoes and carrots. They are able to use the water from wells, rivers, and lakes to care for their crops.
Also the culture in Senegal has a long lunch from 1-3 pm. This is so people don't have to be outside during the hottest times of the day and can be at home where it is cooler. There has also been a lot of work on making the drainage better to help with the flooding, but there is still a lot of work to do.
