Traveler Bio

Bonjour!! My name is Aurore Shima, but feel free to call me Aurore! I am 21 years old from Auburn, Maine. However, I was born and raised in Kigali, Rwanda. So, when you ask me where home is, I would say it both of these places as they both hold a special place in my heart. For instance, Rwanda is where my cultural roots stem from and my favorite childhood memories were created (not to forget the tropical weather).

Being a first-generation student at Hope College has taught me the value of hard work and the importance of embracing impactful experiences. As a senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Global Health and Psychology, I am passionate about healthcare, diversity, advocacy, and access. With this in mind, I am currently studying Global Health and Developmental Policy in Geneva and Morocco, while also conducting independent research on Mental Health and Political Conflict.

As a Rwandan immigrant, I have seen the effects of systematic barriers in education and health, thus I am passionate about advocating for others to achieve their full potential and access to resources.

Besides my academic and professional pursuits, I enjoy reading, singing, and learning new languages. Lastly, I love volunteering my time to encourage young students like me in achieving higher education. Therefore, I am excited to share about my study abroad experiences and connect with you all!!
