Autobiography

Special festivals like this are one of the reasons that drive me to travel. I have always been interested in learning about different cultures around the world. I am especially interested to learn about Chinese culture, because I was born in Guangdong, China. However, I left China when I was only four years old, so all of my cultural knowledge of China was taught to me by my grandmother. Being abroad and having the opportunity to travel and see different parts of China has always been a dream of mine. With its rich history, I only hope that I have enough time to see it all!

Furthermore, there are academic reasons to my decision to come to China. The University where I am studying in (Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, or SWUFE) is ranked one of the best schools for finance and economics in China. As a finance student, I believe that the school that I chose will add great value to my studies.

In addition to SWUFE being a good school, I also want to learn more Mandarin. I believe that being able to speak Mandarin will be a valuable skill to have when I enter the job market. There are many companies and multinational enterprises that are stationed in China or who work with companies in China. Being able to speak Mandarin will allow me to stand out. So far, I’ve been learning Mandarin for a year and a half, and I hope to continue because I have a lot of room for improvement.

So that is me in a nutshell! Given my goals and aspirations, China was an obvious choice of place for me to go abroad. China fulfills my desire to learn more about a culture I am interested in, as well as my goal to excel in the field of finance and be a valuable candidate in the job market. The days are going by fast!
