A Day in the Life

Photos

I sleep inside a mosquitero (mosquito net) at night to protect me from mosquitoes (which can carry harmful diseases like dengue and malaria) as well as other critters that you might not want in your bed, such as frogs and spiders!
I always start my day by making coffee in my greca, which is similar to a percolater (a type of pot used for brewing coffee)
Saying hello to my host mom's perrito (puppy)
A view of the biblioteca (library) where I work, as well as some surprise visitors -- three live roosters that one of my teachers dropped off! You can also see my "Sonidos iniciales" poster that I use to teach letter names and sounds
Making materials for my students out of cardboard mac n' cheese boxes
Frying cheese (queso frito), a typical Dominican side dish
My stove set-up; in this photo, I'm making empanadas using a masa (dough) made from boiled and mashed platanos (plantains)
A bag of mangoes that I bought at a local fruit stand and brought back to my house on my bike
