The Island of Never-Ending Summer

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

Dominicans have adapted to the heat by building houses that are more open to the outdoors, with large windows to increase air flow. Houses with zinc roofs cool off quickly at night and make it easier to fall asleep in the hot summer months. In order to save water, many Dominicans own tinacos, or huge water storage barrels, that are usually located on the roof. Even in the summer, it's common to see Dominicans wearing hats, long-sleeved shirts, and carrying umbrellas to protect their skin from the sun.
