Akwaaba! (Welcome!) My name is Ben—though in my village, I’m often called Kofi Ben or Uncle Ben. I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer serving in the Eastern Region of Ghana, West Africa.
I was born and raised in Northern California and studied Journalism and Agriculture at California State University, Chico. For the past 10 years, I lived in New York City, working in public relations to help companies gain positive attention in the news. In 2025, I packed my bags and joined the Peace Corps as an Agriculture Volunteer. I went from skyscrapers and 8 million neighbors to single-story houses and a village of fewer than 500 people.
In Ghana, my work focuses on teaching improved farming techniques and capacity building. This means I help the community explore new ways to farm and make money. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading, and learning new things. I recently learned how to sew and even made a flag by hand, without any machines! Ghana has a truly welcoming culture, and I’m excited to share the love and warmth I feel every day here with you.
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
