Pancakes for Dessert!

Introduction:

Welcome to Pasar Malam (Night Market)!

Many families in the area set up a tent at the night market to sell warm food, cold drinks, fresh fruits and veggies. While there are markets like this during the day, many more people come out in the evening once the sun has set and the temperature is cooler.

What food did I try?:

There are always so many options of food to try at night markets. It is very hard to choose what new foods to try. Today I tried something called Apam balik (pancake turnover). Can you imagine what it might look like?

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I used to cook a lot at home, especially for my family. Here in Malaysia, it can be very expensive to buy items and cook for yourself so many people eat out. It is quite cheap to eat at a cafe or restoran (restaurant) but the lowest prices are at the night markets! Few items are more than 5 ringgit, which is equal to $1.25. What can you buy for $1.25 in the U.S.?

When I am at a night market I love being able to watch the food being prepared. It reminds me of being in the kitchen. So when I saw someone making apam balik, I knew that I wanted to try it.
