Exploring Istanbul!

Over winter break, I travelledl to Istanbul, Turkey for five days. I spent my time exploring the ancient city, learning about its food, its culture, and its history, from the Romans to the Turks.

More beautiful Ottoman houses on the Asian side of the city.
We were able to take in a beautiful sunset at Moda Park.
I took this in one of my favorite neighborhoods, Fener-Balat. This neighborhood had lots of colorful architecture, fun restaurants, art shops, and more.
This dish is called Manti. It's kind of like mini ravioli, but instead of tomato sauce it's topped with a garlic yogurt sauce and red pepper oil. It was very yummy!
A cistern is basically a big underground tank used to hold water. This cistern was built by the Roman Empire sometime between 400 and 500 AD - can you believe they could build something so impressive!
The Blue Mosque was built in 1619. It's not actually called the Blue Mosque, but tourists started calling it that because of the beautiful blue mosaics and carpet inside.
Throughout the neighborhoods of Istanbul there's often markets where you can buy things like fresh produce, juice, clothes, and more!
The Sea of Marmara separates the two sides of Istanbul. The part on the European continent and the part on the Asian continent.
