I’ve officially been in the Czech Republic for over a month! Now that I’ve made it through all the craziness of moving to a new country and beginning a new job, I’m really starting to settle in and feel more comfortable in my host town for the year.
Bruntál is a small Czech town in the northeastern part of the country. Compared to many of the places I’ve lived in the United States, it feels very small — with just over 20,000 inhabitants — but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in charm. The town was first mentioned as early as the 12th century, and you can truly feel that sense of history when you walk through the main square. The cobblestone streets wind between colorful old buildings, each with its own story, and the square is filled with cozy cafés, local shops, and restaurants that serve up hearty Czech dishes.
Since arriving, I’ve had time to explore some of Bruntál’s most beautiful spots. One of my favorite places so far has been Zámek Bruntál, the historic château (castle) that overlooks the town. Its elegant architecture and peaceful grounds make it the perfect place for an afternoon coffee or a quiet walk.
