Moravia-Silesia: The Joy of the Mountains

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The natural features of the area, especially the supply of clean water and air, are essential for people living in the region. Near Bruntál, there is a large water reservoir called Slezská Harta. This water helps to create power for the region, provide water and is a recreational area where people can swim, kayak, bike, hike and camp.

The natural beauty is also important for the people of the region as it helps to attract tourist and brings business to their restaurants, shops, hotels, and more, especially during the summer and skiing seasons. Without tourism, there wouldn't be enough jobs for all the people in the region.

The natural environment is very important to people in this region and they are working hard to try and protect it against things like climate change, deforestation, and pollution!

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

Because this area is at a higher altitude, the weather can be a bit more extreme here. Two of the most common enviromental and weather-related problems that people have to face are fog and snow. Especially in the winter, many days it can be difficult to see even a few feet in front of you. This can make things like driving very dangerous if you're not careful.

The roads can also get very icy from the foggy mist and snow. However, the people have come up with many different ways to adjust to the enviroment.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

In the Czech Republic, winter is quite long and can be very snowy, icy and foggy.
