Living in Amman isn’t easy because of the heat and the lack of water. But the hills around the city help because they bring cool breezes and make it more comfortable to live there. Many buildings are made from thick stone, which helps keep the heat out during summer. Since water is really scarce, here, the government encourages people to be careful with their water use. Many homes collect rainwater, and we’re taught to take short showers and not waste any water. People in Amman are really careful with their resources and try to make the best of what they have.
The biggest challenge in Amman is the water shortage. Jordan doesn’t have a lot of fresh water, since it’s a very dry country. Because of this, water is expensive, and people have to be very careful with how much they use. Another problem is the overcrowding in the city. There are a lot of people living in Amman, so there’s heavy traffic, and it can feel very crowded. Also, there’s a lot of litter in the streets. To fix this, the government has workers in bright yellow suits who pick up trash, but it’s still a big challenge to keep the city clean because so many people live here.
