Building Communities in Querétaro, Mexico

Introduction:

One of the coolest things about being a part of a new community is you get an up close view of how communities are formed. Questions start to arise that you otherwise take for granted in a more established community.  For example what are the legends and stories people start to tell? What businesses pop up in response to market demands? How are the people that make up this community shaped by the community culture? How do those same individuals simultaneously take part in forming the commuity culture itself?

What community need did I learn about?:

I learned about a new university in Queretaro, Mexico.  There are about 1,000 students along with a team of  faculty and staff that make up this community. The university is situated about 40 minutes outside of the Querétaro City. Although there has been a lot of growth in the four years since it has started, there is still a lot of infrastructure that is lacking. Students still need to travel 20-40 minutes to access a pharmacy, a grocery store, restaurants and movie theaters.

Why does the community have this need?:

Although the university has great dormitories, cafeterias, classrooms, and all the tools needed for a fantastic educational institution, there is room for growth in terms of transportation mobility and leisure activities for the students.
