Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I visited the beach this past week for vacation which involved a LOT of travel. To reach my destination I had to take five separate buses, a taxi and a ferry! In total it took me about 11 hours to arrive at my destination and another 11 to get back home.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I've traveled far enough to finally feel somewhat comfortable with the bus system here.

How did I get around this week?:

The cheapest way to get around Costa Rica is by bus, but you need to make sure you've planned out your route well in advance. Bus schedules are not easily available online, and you frequently have to call the company or ask locals to figure out when and where buses arrive. Also, you need to be careful with your fluid intake. These buses don't stop, so if you have to go to the bathroom, that's bad news for you...

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

In Costa Rica, the last week of March is called Semana Santa, which is a nationwide week-long religious holiday. A lot of people spend time with their family or travel throughout the country. I took the opportunity to visit the beach! I went to Santa Teresa, which is located at the westernmost tip of the country. Santa Teresa is a beautiful, sprawling beach that is perfect for surfing.
