During my time in Morocco, I had the opportunity to go on a three-day guided tour of several cities. Through this tour, my friends and I were able to ride camels through the Sahara in the southern part of the country. After the ride, we arrived at our desert camp, where we would be staying for one of the three nights. This experience made me notice how involved camels are in the desert. Specifically, they are essential to life and travel in the desert regions of southern Morocco.
A large animal with very long legs, a hump (sometimes two) of fat to be used as a source of energy, and thick fur to protect it from the desert climate, as it can get very cold at night.
I was excited and shocked to see so many camels in their natural desert environment. Before I got on the camel, I was nervous because it was so tall, but after a while of riding, the moment felt peaceful. Ultimately, I really enjoyed my experience, especially when we rode camels again in the morning and watched the sun rise.
