This week, the weather was very typical for the region I live in. Since Asturias is situated in the mountains and coast, the colder months make up the "wet season". This past Sunday, before the rain swept in, we experienced a lot of wind. As we move into winter, the wind is so strong, it has a name: Ábregot (the wind of the chestnuts). It is called this because the strong wind knocks chestnuts from the trees, which are collected during the Autumn into the winter months. Chestnuts are a delicacy here during the holiday season!
Many people in the city own dogs. Because most residents live in apartments (or flats) without yards, dogs are walked outside daily for exercise. During my walks to school, I often see hundreds of dogs in parks and even on public transportation. The second most common animals I encounter here are cows. I enjoy running on a nearby trail, where I often spot farm animals such as mountain sheep, goats, horses and cows along the way.
