Do you know what is the best part of this exchange, though? By sharing our photos and telling our stories, we really began to connect and understand not just what hospitality means to each of us, but also what being human means. Jasmine and I discovered, in general, we just want to feel welcomed and respected. Sometimes we think we do a good job of this and sometimes we fall short, but we want to keep learning and growing because we know what it feels like when we aren't welcomed or respected. Maybe you can discuss with one another what hospitality makes you think about or what other people have done to make you feel welcomed and/or respected.
I think my ultimate take away from this experience so far is that sharing our stories and being open to listening to other people's stories is meaningful. You never know what seemingly trivial (unimportant) detail from your life might spark interest for someone else. Also, be open to change. As you learn more, you might start seeing the world or yourself differently, and that’s OK. It’s healthy, even! Just remember to get perspectives from different angles, and know that another person's story matters, so listen to it! Also know that your story matters, so share it, too!
