Welcome to the Cheetah Capital of the World!

Because cheetahs are carnivores, livestock (like goats and sheep in Namibia) are often a free meal when no one is looking over them. In other words, a cheetah only eats a goat or a sheep when humans are not there to protect livestock. Unfortunately, this is the reason why many cheetahs are killed. Cheetahs are often blamed for dwindling livestock, and, as a result, some farmers kill cheetahs to protect their goats and sheep. This negative interaction between wildlife and humans is called Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC). My colleagues will tell you more about HWC on this journey, so don’t worry if this term scares you.

We are very excited to share all our knowledge on cheetahs with you. So buckle up, and we hope you enjoy this journey in Namibia with Jessica, Brian and I! Welcome to Otjiwarongo, Namibia - the cheetah capital of the world!
