Gangneung is probably the farthest I've been this week and the farthest I've been to throughout my study abroad journey so far. Gangneung is located in the eastern coast of South Korea, in the province of Gangwon-do. When people talk about Gangneung, they think of beaches, pine trees, the unification park (where there are exhibits that educate people on Korean unification and security awareness), and the tofu village (a village known for its tofu-based dishes). As you may know, the sun rises in the east. Thus, Gangneung is also the ideal location to watch a spectacular sunrise. It has been a famous tradition for many Koreans to watch the sunrise to celebrate the western New Year (January 1).
I have traveled the farthest to Gangneung!
From my home in Hongdae, it took about two hours to go to Gangneung. First, you have to ride the subway towards Cheongnyangni Station (청량리역). Then you ride the KTX train towards Gangneung Station, then take the bus to whichever destination you are heading to.
