The music we listened to didn't come from the speakers or play through a phone; it was live music! In Galicia, there is a strong Celtic influence. Celtic refers to an ancient culture now associated today with Scotland, Ireland, and England. Therefore, in the music the bagpipes, known as Gaita, are Galician bagpipes that played. One of my friends played in this music group with the clarinet! There were also drums, tamborines, and people singing traditional Galician songs.
The dance, which is called Muiñeira, is a popular Galician dance. There is typically a guía (a guide) that leads the two rows of dancers facing each other with the steps of the dance. The guide will show the dancers what step to do, and then everyone will follow the guide. People are clapping and twirling and then rotating in the circle for the next set of moves. People will continue to join with each following rotation, and as you are facing your dance partner in the row across from you, you are excited to learn what the next steps will be!
