Ecuador's Megadiverse Environment

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Because Ecuadors coast and highlands never get extreme cold weather, crops can be grown year round! A large variety of things can be grown in the country. The coast is known for producing and exporting coffee beans, banana, cocoa beans and rice. The highlands region produces potatoes, corn, beans, wheat and tea. Ecuadorians can buy these things at a low cost.

What challenges do people face living in this environment?:

The people living along the coast and near the rainforest have to deal with the extremely hot weather during the winter season (it's opposite to our seasons!). The average daily temperature during the months of November, December, and Janurary is around 90 degrees Fahrenheit with very high humidity! This makes doing any outside activities almost unbearable. The highlands and the rainforest can get very heavy rainfalls. This often leads to flooding.

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

In the highlands, homes and building are built higher up in the mountains so that people do not have to worry about flooding rivers. On the coast, people are used to the ongoing hot weather. There are many pools in the city, and residents spend the hottest days relaxing on the beach.
