Getting around this big city is pretty simple. There are many transportation options for people who live here and for visitors like myself as well. Because everything you could possibly need can be found within walking distance, that is what I do most of the time. I walk to work and to my school. I also can walk to the stores or to places to have fun with my friends.
The most common ways that people in Guayaquil get around are by walking or taking the public bus. So much is located within walking distance that it is easy to walk anywhere that you need to go. Early in the morning, you can see professionals dressed up nicely in their clothes and walking to work. Around one p.m. you will see many groups of children carrying their bookbags, on their way home from school for lunch. Late at night you can see people walking around with their friends and heading to Malecon 2000, which is a fun boardwalk at the end of town.
I noticed that the public buses can get very crowded. The cost to ride the bus is only 25 cents. They are a cheap way to get to farther parts of the city and to other towns nearby. There are bus stops here just like we have in the United States, but it is common for people to get on anywhere.
