Antarctica may look like a barren spot, but it's actually teeming with life. It has many different kinds of birds, seals, whales, and more!
For bird life, the main player is, of course, the penguin, which lives in the ocean mostly and only comes on land to have babies from November to February. There are tons of penguins, like gentoos, adelies and chinstraps. There are others that I didn't get to see, like emperor penguins, who live on the ice in a different area of the continent.
There are also great big birds like albatross and petrels that fly around the area, and even little birds called Sheathbills that survive by eating other animals' poop!
Most animals in Antarctica live in the water. There are elephant seals, crabeater seals (which actually don't eat crabs!), fur seals, Weddell seals, and the fearsome leopard seal, which has tried to eat humans before!
Whales come during the summer to eat krill. The weight of all the krill in the Antarctic ocean is greater than the weight of all the humans on Earth! There are humpbacks, minke whales, fin whales, and even some blue whales. There are also orcas, which eat the seals and smaller whales.
